Orita's Cross Distributes "Future Freedom Fighter" kits to Black youth

Updated: Jun 8, 2021

This past weekend, we distributed approximately 50 "Future Freedom Fighter" kits to Black youth around the city of Baltimore.

The boxes included items provided by community herbalist, Shannon Winston, Naima Winston of Cocina Naima, seeds from the seed bank of the Black Church Food Security Network, slime co-created by Taleah and Clarke of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, a t-shirt honoring the words of Nina Simone, and other African cultural gifts. 80% of everything in the box came from Black-owned businesses!

Parents expressed great appreciation and excitement about these kits. One mother encouraged the Orita's Cross team by sharing that we'd planted an important seed of self-pride in her son that she hopes that we continue to nurture. Another mother, expressed excitement at being able to share the kits with her children.

It was a beautiful experience all around and we look forward to doing this again!
